Thursday 15th July
House burglary in Tunstall Rd Biddulph
At 3am on Thursday 15th July a burglary was committed at a dwelling in Tunstall Road Knypersley. Entry was gained through an unlocked door. Stolen were vehicle keys used to take a Transit van parked outside. The van was later recovered at the end of Lodge Barn Road. A search had been made of the interior but nothing was taken. No one was seen or heard. Please make your neighbours aware of this burglary. Remind them to keep their homes secure at all times and to report any suspicious person or incident to the police immediately.

Overnight Thursday 24th / Friday 25th June
The compound of Blue Gates Garage in Tunstall Road Knypersley was entered by cutting the gate locks.  Two vehicles were moved to gain access to a caravan that was then stolen. Unfortunately we have no details of the caravan, however the police at Biddulph telephone
0300 123 4455 would welcome any information in relation to this theft. Callers should quote incident number 150 of 25th June or for complete anonymity ring crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

14th May 2010
A NHW member has reported that a firm using hard sell tactics will be in this area over the next few days trying to get people to purchase household alarms. They are very persistent and our advice is that you should never agree to any purchase from a doorstep caller or a cold call over the phone. Any doorstep caller who creates a nuisance, by not taking no for an answer, should be reported to the police at once.

Overnight Friday 7th / Saturday 8th May thieves tried to steal a Fiat parked in Victoria Row Knypersley by bending back the front passenger door and then damaging the steering lock.  Unfortunately a Vauxhall Corsa registered number N654 DMB was then stolen from  the drive of a nearby dwelling.  No one was seen or heard.  Please report to the Police if you hav eany information.

Between 10am on Wednesday 5th and 12noon on Friday 7th May a shed burglary was committed at a dwelling in New Buildings Knypersley. Entry was gained by forcing a window. Stolen was a Spear and Jackson hedge trimmer. No one was seen or heard. Please be extra vigilant and remember about shed and garage security since this type of burglary tends to increase at this time of year.

April 20th 2010 - Trailer Stolen from Lask Edge Road
Between 10am to 2pm a 10ft x 4ft trailer was stolen from a field in Lask Edge Road Knypersley.

April 2010 - Computer Telephone Scam
A warning is issued to computer users to be on their guard against unsolicited telephone calls from phoney computer support personnel.

In 2008 Officers issued a warning about the practices of a company known as supportonclick who were cold calling computer users and claiming to be representing Microsoft. Their tactic is to convince the user that something is wrong with their PC and purchase software that they do not actually need. The fraudsters use leading, generalised questioning techniques that often have the effect of convincing the user that their individual circumstances are known to the calling company. Callers often know the user’s name, giving them greater plausibility.

The Service has continued to receive complaints about the Indian-based company and are advising computer users to remain vigilant.

Officers advise that effective online security is crucial, and users should ensure that their PCs are running up-to-date anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall software. However, good security need not be complicated or expensive – many security vendors provide free versions of their software for personal use.

Officers advise PC users to read up on online security via www.getsafeonline.org. They also advise turning off any ‘auto-preview’ features in their email software, and encourage all email users to observe their tips for avoiding email spam.

April 2010 - Conway Road
At about 5pm on Sunday 4th April a resident of a dwelling in Conway Road Knypersley reported that three West Indian males had tried to get into his home by stating that they needed access because of a flood to the house next door. The occupant was suspicious and picked up the phone to ring the police and all three ran off to a black Ford Focus. The occupant took the number which was passed to the police. The vehicle was located an hour later travelling on the M6 and all the occupants from the Birmingham area were arrested. A good result that shows how far some of these offenders will travel.

Please be on your guard and not to let anyone into your home unless you are absolutely sure that they are genuine. Any suspicious caller in these circumstances should be reported to the Police immediately using the 999.

February 2010
Overnight on the 8th February 2010, a shed in Knypersley Gardens was broken into and a chain saw and power tools were stolen.
The locks were forced to gain entry so please check your own security measures on both your shed and garage. Although latest statistics show the level of crime coming down, it is very important that we are on our guard at all times. Please pass this message onto any of your neighbours especially vulnerable ones and always remember to report any suspicious situations to the police.

Man sleeping rough in the area
Please be aware that there is a young man sleeping rough in the area. Footprints have been seen in a few gardens in the last flurry of snow.
He has been known to sleep in a greenhouse, and in a tent near to
St. Lawrence's church. It may be an idea to check your sheds and garages
before locking them, and keep your eyes open. The police would be
interested in any information regarding this matter.
